Kezi ("the app") is a Chinese vocabulary practice tool. This policy explains what data the app handles. The short version: your lessons and vocabulary stay on your device.
The lessons you create, the words in them, your pinyin and meaning edits, and your practice progress are stored locally on your device (in the app's own storage). This data is never sent to us or to any server. We have no account system and no backend that receives your content.
Kezi uses Microsoft Clarity, an analytics service, to understand how the app is used (for example, which screens are visited and where people get stuck). Clarity collects usage and device/browser information and online identifiers — including your IP address and cookie identifiers — and may record anonymised sessions of how the app is used. The text you type or paste — your vocabulary and lessons — is masked and is not captured. This is personal data under the GDPR. We load Clarity only with your consent: it stays off until you choose “Allow” on our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” (in the website footer, or in the app under Settings → Privacy). If you decline, Clarity is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set.

If you use the in-app feedback form, the text you submit is stored in a Google spreadsheet so we can read and act on it. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in feedback.
We rely on a few providers to run Kezi:
Some of these providers are based outside the EU; such transfers rely on the providers' Standard Contractual Clauses or Data Privacy Framework certifications.
When you share Chinese text into Kezi from another app (for example via Google Lens), that text is processed entirely on your device to create a lesson. It is not transmitted anywhere.
Because everything is stored locally, you can remove all your data at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. The app also lets you export your lessons to a file for your own backup.
Kezi is intended for general audiences learning Chinese and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Accounts, when offered, are for users aged 18 or older.
Kezi's dictionary data comes from CC-CEDICT, used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). Our corrections and additions to it are shared under the same licence.
